Reaching the Inner City




For Reverend Richard Del Rio, Sportron is an important part of his long-term vision. He and his wife Arlene have dedicated their lives to empowering people spiritually, socially and financially. Richard's daily work routine would stagger most people, but his tireless enthusiasm for making a difference in peoples’ lives keeps him going. “All I do is take the good news to people that there is hope,” he says confidently. Richard founded Abounding Grace Ministries in 1982 and Abounding Grace Church in 1992, where he is Senior Pastor. Richard serves as an NYPD Police-Clergy Liaison. He is a co-founder of Community Solutions, Inc, which launched Generation X-cel in 1996.

Generation X-cel offers hope to inner city youth. Daily, these young people contend with poverty, drugs, alcoholism, broken homes, abusive relationships, teen pregnancy and violence. Dropout rates are among the worst in the nation and juvenile delinquency thrives. Generation X-cel offers school education and summer programs as well as community outreach from its base in one of New York City's housing projects.

The summer outreach "Jesus Loves You New York!" is a one-week fast paced program on the Lower East Side that includes Hip-Hop music, Dancing, Rap and Mime during the day and Rallies at night. This far-reaching ministry is in its sixteenth year and involves over 120 committed youth who travel from as far away as Africa, Germany, England and Brazil to work in the streets. Working with celebrities and politicians Richard uses special events such as a three-on-three basketball tournament and live athletic demonstrations to get the message out. Utilizing a special "sound machine" van as well as a traveling flat bed trailer as a stage this crusade goes where the kids are.

For the Del Rio family, community service begins at home. They have provided a home to as many as seven neighborhood children at a time, and his three sons and two daughters-in law work alongside him in public service.

Richard has a real passion to educate people about Sportron's unique technology and the prosperity that comes with spreading the news. He explained, “When I first learned about how FoodMatrix nutrition impacts our bodies and how this opportunity could set people free, I knew I had to be part of it. Richard and Arlene have been an integral part of the Sportron story, speaking at a variety of Sportron rallies and conventions as well as traveling all over the world with their Sportron family.

“There are many aspects to quality of life,” he begins. “Health and financial well being are critical issues that we all deal with. It is important that I help to provide for the body of man. Poor health and money problems will affect all of the other parts of your life.”
